Commando has the giant gun and its easier to gear your companions. I have both (although my commando isn't fully leveled, vanguard is 55 though) but i would suggest the merc. Nothing like shooting missiles and spouting a flamethrower.Mercs still have a healing spec. Mercs in PVP are stronger than sorcs just because they have far better DCDs. I also prefer the single target damage a merc can put on a target, they melt stuff easily. Sorc madness do ok, could use a tad up tick in damage imo, but good madness sorcs melt targets pretty good.

I can't tell you how many times my knockback goes on cooldown, i die, and the enemy doesn't get knocked back. I use my stun and it fires 1 second later or I try to stun enemy before I die and instead get killed then stun the enemy almost at the same time.The powertech and vanguard can be set as tank or (m)dps.
